Solent Scaffolding Ltd is committed to ensuring the health, safety and welfare of our employees, contractors, clients and members of the public who may be affected by our operations. We recognise that effective health and safety management is essential to delivering high-quality scaffolding services and maintaining a safe working environment at all times.

This policy applies to all employees, subcontractors and anyone working on behalf of Solent Scaffolding Ltd.

Our Commitment

We are committed to providing and maintaining safe systems of work, safe equipment and a safe working environment. We aim to prevent accidents, injuries and work-related ill health through proactive planning, training and supervision.

We will comply with all relevant health and safety legislation, including guidance issued by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), and adhere to recognised industry standards such as TG20:13 and SG4:15.

Responsibilities

Management is responsible for:

• Providing leadership and ensuring health and safety is prioritised across all operations
• Ensuring appropriate risk assessments and method statements are in place
• Providing suitable training, supervision and resources
• Monitoring performance and implementing improvements where required

Employees and contractors are responsible for:

• Working safely and following company procedures
• Using equipment correctly and reporting defects
• Wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Reporting hazards, incidents or near misses promptly

Risk Assessment and Planning

We carry out risk assessments for all projects to identify potential hazards and implement appropriate control measures.

Method statements are prepared where required to ensure that work is carried out safely and efficiently.

Training and Competence

All operatives are appropriately trained and hold relevant qualifications, including CITB and CISRS certification where applicable.

We ensure that our workforce receives ongoing training and refresher courses to maintain high standards of competence and safety awareness.

Safe Equipment and Inspection

All scaffolding materials and equipment are regularly inspected and maintained to ensure they are safe and fit for use.

Scaffolding structures are inspected in accordance with legal requirements, including after installation, at regular intervals and following adverse weather conditions.

Inspection records and handover certificates are provided where required.

Personal Protective Equipment

We provide appropriate PPE to all operatives and ensure it is used correctly at all times.

This may include helmets, harnesses, gloves, high-visibility clothing and safety footwear depending on the nature of the work.

Working at Height

Working at height is a key part of our operations, and we take all necessary precautions to reduce risks.

We follow industry best practice and ensure that all work at height is properly planned, supervised and carried out by competent personnel.

Incident Reporting

All accidents, incidents and near misses must be reported immediately. We investigate all incidents to identify causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Continuous Improvement

We are committed to continually improving our health and safety performance. This includes reviewing our procedures, learning from incidents and keeping up to date with industry best practice.

Monitoring and Review

This policy will be reviewed regularly to ensure it remains effective and compliant with current legislation and industry standards.
